Tales from La Terraza

Forget the friendly locals with their quaint traditions, this is a look at what life is really like in Spain - grumpy waiters, prostitutes, bureaucracy and all!

Hola a todos!

Hello anyone and everyone

This is my blog of life in Madrid. My husband and I moved here after too many years working in newspapers back in Britain. We brought our two cats, Harrie and Hattie, and lots of dreams. Some of them have been broken (the dreams, not the cats) but living in Spain is every bit as exciting as we thought. And frustrating, bewildering, hilarious . . . .

Anyway, I hope you enjoy my ramblings. Feel free to add a comment.

The Metropolis building
One of my favourites in Madrid. It stands on the corner of Calle Alcala and Gran Via, just when you get into the city centre

The post office

The post office
The fountain in front is Cibeles, where the Real Madrid fans go crazy when the team wins something big. Now the police are organised and it's blockaded in time. This is a great place to watch the tourists trying to take photos as it's one of the busiest roundabouts in the centre. Every two minutes, you hear "Shit" as another car/bus/lorry spoils that perfect view!
